Max Lydum Named Assistant Track & Field Coach

NEW YORK – Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Daniel Ireland has announced a new addition to his coaching staff. Official as of Wednesday afternoon, Max Lydum has been named an Assistant Track & Field coach and will oversee Columbia’s throwers.

“We are very excited to welcome Max Lydum as our new assistant coach for throws!” Ireland said. “Coach Lydum will be a great fit to our staff and to continue the recent success of our throws group. He is very passionate about throwing and the development of high level student athletes across all implements.”

Prior to his move to New York City, Lydum spent three seasons at Western Oregon University where his student-athletes won seven GNAC Championships. Before that, Lydum was on staff at Lane CC for the 2021 year as the assistant track and field coach overseeing throws.Lydum Hire

Before moving into coaching, Lydum had a stellar career with the Ducks of Oregon. He tallied points in all four Pac-12 Conference meets and holds the seventh all-time indoor weight throw at the University of Oregon. Lydum was a 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor qualifier in the hammer.

His personal-best marks throughout his career stand at 210-6 for the hammer throw and 63-3.5 in the weight throw. Lydum won several meets as well with the Ducks taking home first in the Oregon State High Performance in the hammer, Husky Classic in the weight, Oregon Twilight in the hammer and the Oregon State High Performance again in the hammer.
