After making their first roster cuts to bring their roster down to 53 players, the New York Giants will make their waiver claims by Wednesday at noon ET. It will then be time to assemble the practice squad.
Likely a mix of players they waived and some new additions, the Giants will be looking to fill out their 16-man practice squad over the next few days.
Here’s a look at the practice squad specifics for 2024:
- As many as 16 players on its practice squad
- Up to 10 players with two or fewer accrued seasons
- Up to six veterans (no limit on accrued seasons)
- Teams can elevate up to two practice squad players for each game. A practice squad player can be elevated a maximum of three times during the season. After maximizing a player’s elevations, the team must sign said player to the active roster if he’s to be available on game days.
- Teams can sign players from another team’s practice squad directly to their active roster. They cannot sign a practice squad player of a different to their own practice squad.
It should be noted that nothing is official until the team announces the signings so it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt until then.
