President Dr. Irfaan Ali recently sent a strong message regarding the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the lead-up to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) finals, which will be hosted in Guyana this year. During a public address, he challenged the Amazon Warriors to finally bring home the championship, noting that the team has reached the finals five times but has never secured the title. He emphasized that while the government and its partners have done their part by ensuring that Guyana hosts the finals, the onus is now on the team to push harder and win. Dr. Ali humorously pointed out that, so far, all fans in Guyana have been able to do is watch the trophy without claiming it. He expressed hope that this time, the outcome will be different, urging the team to rise to the challenge

Additionally, President Ali highlighted the importance of sports as a unifying force in the country, aligning this event with his “One Guyana” vision. Hosting the finals is part of broader efforts to showcase Guyana’s growing economy and tourism potential to a global audience
