REPORT: Oilers Could Easily Bring Back Fan Favorite Defender

Several reports indicate that the Edmonton Oilers will look to sign a player to a PTO who is already familiar with the team.
The roster for the Edmonton Oilers is starting to take shape. A few items have been strengthened by recent actions. Due to offer sheets, Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg are leaving, which frees up salary and positions to foster internal competition for training camp.
Another method the team can deploy to further foster competition is the use of PTO’s. Professional tryout deals are unspoken agreements where a player can practice with a team and play pre-season games. They can also use team facilities under the duration of the agreement.
However, in order for them to play regular season games they must have an NHL contract.
Tyson Barrie, who was dealt to the Nashville Predators in the deal that included Mattias Ekholm, is one player that is apparently on the Oilers PTO radar.
