Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as yet more interest emerges in Viktor Gyokeres with Burnley claimed to be ready to offer two players plus cash in exchange for the Sweden international

Viktor Gyokeres’ future continues to dominate the headlines with another Premier League club emerging as having interest in the Coventry City striker.

c to do a players-plus-cash deal as a way of reaching City’s £20million plus asking price.

Earlier this week it emerged that Everton had entered the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, with the Daily Mail claiming the Toffees could offer striker Ellis Simms in a player swap plus cash agreement.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese press appear convinced that Gyokeres has set his heart on a move to Sporting Lisbon, having already agreed a five year deal with the Lions and just waiting for the two clubs to reach a compromise on the figures, with the Primeira Liga side currently falling short of Coventry’s valuation.

City owner and executive chairman Doug King is determined to hold out for the best possible price, last week acknowledging that there is “lots of interest” in the player from home and abroad.

And given Mark Robins’ need to rebuild his squad with between 10-15 new players following the summer departures of 11 seniors, including five loans, such a deal might well appeal. As it stands the squad is looking extremely thin ahead of the weekend’s return for pre-season testing, with just one centre-half in Kyle McFadzean, one fit striker in Matty Godden and no right wing-backs.

A player exchange plus cash deal, therefore, could be attractive to City who are understood to be keen to re-sign Luke McNally following his outstanding half season loan from Turf Moor. The 23-year-old centre-back appears to be well down the pecking order under Vincent Kompany, who added West Brom defender Dara O’Shea for a reported £7million fee last week.

His arrival comes on top of two centre-halves who were signed in January – 24-year-old Swede Hjalmar Ekdal who joined for £2.5m from Djurgardens IF and Ameen Al-Dakhil who signed from Sint-Truiden.

TEAMtalk claims Kompany could be ready to offer two players plus cash to “tempt” City to part with Gyokeres, who has also been linked with interest from Wolves, West Ham and Brentford, among others.

Another Burnley player who City might well be interested in is attacking midfielder Scott Twine. The 24-year-old was limited to 14 league games last term but remains highly-rated, certainly in the Championship, and was one of the players former Sky Blues star Gary McSheffrey recommended Coventry should go and sign this summer in a list compiled for CoventryLive.

Clarets boss Kompany, meanwhile, is looking to add another proven goal scorer to his squad and is an admirer of Gyokeres, having spoken about the 22-goal striker following his side’s narrow 1-0 Turf Moor victory over Coventry last January, admitting he “showed everything” against his defenders.

Asked what he thought of Gyokeres, the 36-year-old manager was keen that no-one jumped to any conclusions from his assessment, saying at the time: “My opinion, and let’s not make any assumptions because it is a neutral opinion as someone who watches football, I thought he showed everything today of what he is.
