Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing already thinking of returning to Europe – ‘If I would get an offer that side then I don’t mind going back’
The 24-year-old was a standout at Portuguese top-flight club Moreirense FC, racking up 33 appearances, a goal, and three assists.
Kodisang’s European success made his move to Sundowns for the 2024-25 season quite a surprise.
Despite the shockwaves, Kodisang has shared his reasons for returning home, shedding light on his unexpected decision.
“It’s not the only reason, there are a lot of factors also. A lot of them are personal, but I would say that being closer to family, it’s one of the reasons,” Kodisang told GameOn on Radio2000.
“I plan on going back obviously, so we’ll see how things go, like if I would get an offer that side then I don’t mind going back.
“It wasn’t intentional, but I didn’t mind and like I said before, Sundowns are like one of the teams that I wanted to play for back home because you know everyone likes winning trophies and being in the best team,” he concluded.
Kodisang is well-versed in local football, having previously played for the now-defunct Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits.
In 2019, he ventured to Portugal, joining SC Braga’s B team. Over the years, he switched between Braga and Moreirense, finally securing a permanent spot with Moreirense in July 2023.
Now at Sundowns, Kodisang has the perfect stage to shine on home soil.
He’ll be aiming to impress coaches Steve Komphela, Manqoba Mngqithi and Romain Folz for a possible feature in the season opening MTN 8 competition, where the Brazilians face Polokwane City on Sunday, August 11th.
