Pink Floyd’s Drummer Wants The Band To Reunite…But Fans Shouldn’t Get Their Hopes Up

Pink Floyd has been broken up for years, but they remain incredibly popular and influential. The band almost always appears on charts all around the world, as people are still in love with their boundary-pushing unique style of rock music. Longtime fans of the group have been hoping for some kind of reconciliation between the fighting members, and while at least one seems interested in getting everyone back together, he also admits that such a reunion is highly unlikely.

In a new interview with Reuters, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason opened up about the possibility of the group reforming. He made it clear that while he’s very into the idea, he believes his bandmates are probably far less enthused with the notion of playing together again.

When asked if he’d be open to some kind of a reunion, Mason stated, plainly, “Oh yeah. I would.” That may sound like music to the ears of Pink Floyd lovers everywhere, but of course, it’s not that simple.

Mason also said that when it comes to playing live or making more music, “I don’t think you’ll find very much support from Roger and David for working together.” The men he’s referring to—Roger Waters and David Gilmour—helped make Pink Floyd the globe-dominating band they once were…and to an extent, still are to this day. The musicians have been at odds for many years, and it seems that their feud is only intensifying as time goes on.

Throughout Pink Floyd’s time together, Waters and Gilmour fought about creative direction and choices made on the band’s songs and albums. In the years since they stopped making music, their spats have been more personal, and sometimes about world events and their differing viewpoints on topics like the war in Ukraine. Waters has landed himself in hot water more than once for comments that have been called antisemitic by many, and which have not made their relationship better.

Mason nailed home his point in the interview, commenting that “I really, really don’t think there’s an appetite (for a reunion).” That’s unhappy news for Pink Floyd die-hard supporters, but it probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Pink Floyd hasn’t performed together as a full group in nearly 20 years. The rockers reunited for the Live 8 charity event in 2005, which took place in London.

Since then, the members have all worked on their solo careers and lived their own lives, constantly discussing the possibility—or downright impossibility—of a reunion of the band. In some instances, two musicians from the group will work together in some capacity or played live with one another, but a complete rejoining is not in the works and is seemingly less and less likely with each passing year.
