The transfer portal mayhem ensues as Texas football defensive back Terrance Brooks announced his intention to enter the portal on social media Tuesday afternoon. He joins 21 other Longhorns from the 2023 roster in transferring out of the program, according to 247Sports.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Brooks said, “I want to thank God, my family, and the longhorn nation[sic] for everything. At this time I will be entering into the transfer portal.”
The rising junior played in all 14 games last season, starting in 13 of them. He tallied 20 tackles, and a personal best three interceptions and six pass breakups, including a 40-yard interception return in the Longhorns’ win against BYU. Brooks also notched two solo tackles in the Big 12 championship and three in the national semifinal. He was a 2023 All-Big 12 honorable mention.
With more players leaving the program for the portal, the Longhorns will look to bolster their roster. They already have nine transfer commitments, and their 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked sixth in the nation, according to the 247 Composite rankings. While the secondary struggled down the stretch last season, its also set to return some top talent, including 2023 All-Big 12 Second Team selection Jahdae Barron.
A Dallas-area native, Brooks was recruited by Texas in 2021 as a four-star cornerback out of Little Elm after flipping his commitment from Ohio State.
