From Orange County to Hockeytown.

Okotoks goalie Gage Alexander was traded by the Anaheim Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings on July 3 in exchange for forward Robby Fabbri and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

The 22-year-old Alexander, a fifth-round Ducks selection in 2021, has played two seasons in the professional ranks split between the ECHL’s Tulsa Oilers and AHL’s San Diego Gulls.sports-gagealexander1

In 2023-24, the 6-foot-6 shotstopper had five wins and an .887 save percentage with Tulsa.

Alexander attended Ducks development at the start of the month prior to the transaction.

The Okotokian starred for the Western Hockey League’s Winnipeg Ice and Swift Current Broncos prior to inking his professional contract in December 2022.

As a minor hockey athlete, Alexander plied his trade in the Okotoks Oilers Athletic Association and played a starring role for the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers, Rockyview Raiders and Okotoks U15 AA Oilers, winning a provincial championship with the latter in 2017.
