Blockbuster New York Mets Trade Proposal Lands Huge Haul for Star
The New York Mets may or may not be willing to move on from their star slugger, this trade package would make their decision easier at the upcoming MLB deadline.
For the past several weeks, the New York Mets have wavered between dealing Pete Alonso, but in an attempt to move things forward, a trade partner might make an offer that is too good to refuse. The Houston Astros are one team that might be sufficiently desperate. They could become desperate because of how awful things are at first base.
FanSided’s Zach Pressnell has a trade suggestion that might be sufficient to get Houston over the finish line. In exchange for right-handed pitcher Miguel Ullola, outfielder Zach Cole, and shortstop Brice Matthews, New York would send Alonso to the Astros.
Matthews and Cole are both top-five prospects in the Houston farm system, getting that from a team for a player that is essentially just a rental
The Astros drafted Matthews in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft and his transition to the minor leagues has been ideal. Across all three levels that he’s competed in this season, he has a slashing line of .276/.397/.481 with eight homeruns and 17 stolen bases.
He was drafted with the hopes of becoming a power-hitting infielder and that certainly looks like a realistic outcome. His last season at Nebraska saw him complete a 20-20 season.
