After devastating floods and ten years of work, Notts Gymnastics Academy relaunches
The experience for our gymnasts and coaches has been improved with new convenient access, new toilets, new locker areas, new offices and new reception areas
The first phase of new facilities for Notts Gymnastics Academy has been officially opened in front of an audience of supporters, families and VIP sporting guests. The revamped gym academy, in Boundary Road, West Bridgford, is the culmination of 10 years of planning.
Adam Coventry, trustee on the Notts Gymnastics Academy board, explained during the opening ceremony that the project has not all been plain sailing. It included the demolition of the former adjacent Rushcliffe Leisure Centre, which the gym academy was physically attached to, and the creation of new school buildings for Rushcliffe Spencer Academy.
Mr Coventry said: “This meant we had to work with both parties to find a way through this work, that would not only preserve our gymnastics academy in its current location but improve, modernise and expand our facilities. The old leisure centre has now gone, the new school buildings are nearly finished and we are opening the first half of our amazing new facilities.

“The journey hasn’t been an easy one. The coaches, gymnasts, parents and management team have coped with some difficult times along the way – from no heating, no indoor toilets, and no indoor waiting areas to our devastating pit floods of October 2023. They have dealt with it all in a positive way and we are so excited to emerge with a facility that we are proud of, and that will continue to nurture and develop this fantastic sport well into the future.
