Everton are eyeing a move for Ajax’s Brian Brobbey.
That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who have reported that the Toffees are considering an offer for the striker.
The 21-year-old joined Ajax’s academy in 2010 and went onto make his senior debut in 2020. However, he was released by the Dutch giants eight months later and joined RB Leipzig.
Despite failing to score a single goal in Germany, Ajax brought Brobbey back to his boyhood club later that year and he eventually made his stay permanent for €16.35 million last summer.
Bbbey has enjoyed a lot more success since returning to Amsterdam, netting 13 goals in the Eredivisie last season and pickingro up two ‘Talent of the Month’ awards for his performances.
The forward is yet to play for his national team, however Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk is well aware of his talent.
Speaking after Liverpool’s win over Ajax in the Champions League in October, the defender said: “I think he’s a great boy. He is a great talent and basically has everything. He is fast, strong and can finish well.”
With four years still left on his contract, Everton are said to be interested in ending Brobbey’s second spell with Ajax this summer and bringing him to the Premier League.
Brian Brobbey snubbed a move to Manchester United last summer in favour of a return to Ajax, according to The Sun.
Erik ten Hag is said to be a big fan of the striker and was eager to bring him to England, however Brobbey said he wasn’t ‘done’ in Amsterdam but his dream was to play for the Red Devils one day.
Manchester United haven’t continued their pursuit for the youngster this summer and Sean Dyche‘s side could potentially benefit from Brobbey’s desire to play for them.
While Goodison Park may not be as tempting, Brobbey could be persuaded by a move to the English top flight and it would certainly be the best place for him to showcase his talents on one of the biggest stages in world football.
