Can quarterback Nathan Rourke, signed as a free agent this offseason to give the New York Giants a fourth quarterback as Daniel Jones rehabs from knee surgery, challenge Tommy DeVito for the Giants’ QB role?

Let’s discuss Rourke as we continue player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man roster.

In two seasons with the BC Lions of the CFL, Rourke completed 307 of 406 passing attempts (75.6%) for 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Despite playing in only 10 games in 2023, he was named the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian after completing 78.6% of his passes for 3,349 yards, with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

After working out for a number of NFL teams, including the Giants, Rourke signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2023 season. He never played a snap.

He was signed by the New England Patriots after being waived by Jacksonville in mid-December. The Giants claimed him on waivers from New England in May.

2024 outlook

Rourke, if anything more than a camp arm, might be competition for DeVito. It did not look that way in the spring, though, as Rourke did not receive nearly as many practice reps as DeVito during workouts open to the media.
