Danny Rohl responds to rumours that Sheffield Wednesday are set to sign ‘bright’ Rangers gem
Sheffield Wednesday have made the most signings in the Championship so far this summer.
The Owls have snapped up Ben Hamer, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Svante Ingelsson, Jamal Lowe, Olaf Kobacki and James Beadle in recent weeks.
The club were expected to make major changes to the squad that narrowly avoided relegation, with Danny Rohl eager to lead the team to a top half finish next season.
Sheffield Wednesday had a huge problem with scoring goals last term and have already brought in two new attackers, but they aren’t finishing there.
While they have been linked with a number of strikers, they are also eager to bolster their wide areas.
The Owls have already been linked with a move for Rangers winger Scott Wright, with the Scot set to leave Glasgow this summer.
Are Sheffield Wednesday set to sign Scott Wright?
Rohl has now responded to rumours regarding the Rangers’ ‘bright spark’, but refused to give much away.
When speaking to the media (as per the Daily Record), the German said: “I will not speak about names because it makes no sense. This market goes so quick. We have an idea what we want to have, I have an idea of how I want to play in the new season.
“We know what we have to improve when we look back from last season and then it’s about finding the right pieces to make our squad stronger and stronger because we are very ambitious for the new season.”
Who’s place in the squad could be in trouble now?
While Rohl was very careful not to give anything away, it does suggest that Wednesday are closing in on Wright.
He will be another winger to add to the ranks heading into the new season, with the head coach set to have Djeidi Gassama, Anthony Musaba, Callum Paterson, Marvin Johnson, Lowe and Kobacki as potential options out wide.
It will be a huge season for Gassama in terms of proving himself, as his first campaign in England wasn’t quite as successful as hoped.
The Frenchman needs to impress early on, otherwise he could find himself quickly falling down the pecking order at Hillsborough.
Musaba’s strong end to the season saw him finish on 13 goal contributions, and it now seems highly likely that he will play a key role in Rohl’s first full season in charge.
