Two elderly men have been charged with child sex offences in North Queensland, dating back 50 years.
Police allege the men, aged 82 and 74, committed the offences against a young girl in the Julia Creek, Boulia and Townsville areas between 1970 and 1978.
The men from North Queensland are due to appear in the Julia Creek Magistrates Court on July 11.
The 82-year-old is charged with nine child sex offences, including six counts of indecent treatment of a girl under 16.
The 74-year-old is charged with one count of indecent treatment of a girl under 17.
No time or location limits on reporting
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Forbes Malseed said a number of officers had been working on the investigation for over 12 months.
“It’s always a team effort and there’s a lot of work that goes into it by the detectives and the unit,” he said.
Acting Senior Sergeant Malseed urged anyone else with information to contact police on 131 444.
“It’s important that the community understands that there is no time limits to report these matters. It doesn’t matter if it happened decades ago, we will definitely take the report and we will definitely conduct an investigation,” he said.
“There’s also no limitation on victims where they are living — if they have moved away from where the offending occurred, it’s perfectly acceptable for them to report that to any police station and then that will be investigated.”
Reports can also be made anonymously on the Crime Stoppers website or by calling 1800 333 000.
