Detroit Lions Legend Barry Sanders Makes Alarming Announcement About His Health

In case you were wondering, Detroit Lions icon Barry Sanders is now 55. It has been nearly three decades since the 10-time Pro Bowler terrorized the league as one of the best running backs to ever do it.

On Friday, the Hall of Famer took to X, formerly Twitter, to make a stunning announcement about a recent health scare he went through. Apparently, Sanders’ Father’s Day weekend did not exactly go as planned.

Sanders released an official statement on Friday wherein he revealed that he suffered an issue related to his heart. The six-time All-Pro RB, however, did not provide the details of the health scare:

Over Father’s Day weekend, I experienced a health scare related to my heart,” Sanders wrote. “It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling fine.”

The fact that the problem was “unexpected” seems to point to the fact that Sanders is currently in good health. However, as he said, this is also probably why the heart issue came as a surprise.

Sanders thanked the doctors and the nurses who assisted him throughout his ordeal while also committing to being more conscious about his overall health:

“I am grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for providing me with needed care. My family and I are thankful for your prayers and support during this time.

“Per my doctors’ recommendation, I am taking his opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being. I appreciate your understanding and continued support.”
