Sheffield Wednesday may now stand very little chance of landing one of their reported summer transfer targets.

Sheffield Wednesday have a growing and exciting list of summer transfer targets, with a third summer signing now being reported.

It’s claimed that Yan Valery is set to undergo his Sheffield Wednesday medical on Thursday, after free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe both arrived.

The pair become Sheffield Wednesday’s first summer signings and Danny Rohl’s first permanent signings as Owls manager.

Sheffield Wednesday are also chasing a deal for Ian Poveda; Poveda is set to be released by Leeds United this summer, and Wednesday have reportedly entered into formal discussions over a return.

Alex Miller has urged patience over a deal for Poveda. But a deal for Poveda may be more likely than a deal for Karamoko Dembele.

Sheffield Wednesday are in the race for his signature, with the former Celtic star now set to leave Brest as a free agent this summer.

Premier League clubs weigh up move for Karamoko Dembele at Brest

It was recently announced that Dembele would be leaving Ligue 1 side Brest as a free agent this summer, despite his impressive 2023/24 campaign on loan at Blackpool.

The 21-year-old scored eight goals and assisted 13 more in League One. His form prompted Premier League clubs to take an interest, with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County among the Championship teams keen.

But an emerging report from HITC has now revealed that the likes of Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham are all ‘weighing up’ summer moves for Dembele, who will soon become a free agent.

Sheffield Wednesday must now focus on two players

Rohl clearly likes a winger who can burst forward with pace and close control, like Poveda.

Poveda gave Sheffield Wednesday a whole new outlet last season. Then when he was injured, it really took the sting out of Wednesday’s attack.

The likes of Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama remain very raw and inexperienced, so more bodies are needed in that area.

Now with a move for Dembele looking unlikely, given the Premier League interest, Rohl may focus his attentions on Poveda, and also Ovie Ejaria.

Ejaria, a free agent after his Reading release in December last year, is another tricky winger with Championship experience.

Sheffield Wednesday may now focus their attentions on Poveda and Ejaria with Dembele looking like an ambitious capture.

Both Poveda and Ejaria arriving would give Sheffield Wednesday a pretty formidable set of wingers, all capable of playing on either side of the pitch.

More is needed around the pitch though if Sheffield Wednesday are to fulfil their potential under Rohl next season.
