Sheffield Wednesday are nearing the addition of Yan Valery with a medical booked in today, as per The Star.
Sheffield Wednesday are going full speed in this summer transfer window as they prepare for another season in the Championship.
Danny Rohl managed to keep the Owls up last season on the final day after a remarkable turnaround, but now the German boss is fully focussed on preparing his squad for the upcoming campaign
Valery, 25, spent last season in France playing for Angers. He got five league assists in 35 outings from right back.
The Tunisian international made the switch to France from Southampton where he worked with Rohl on the south coast.
It was reported last week that the Owls had agreed a deal with the French club, and now it has been said his medical is booked in for today with this deal almost over the finish line.
A statement of intent
Rohl knows Valery well and it is believed the German was a big part of the Tunisian deciding to move to Hillsborough.
Montpellier and Standard Liege were both also interested in the defender, but it seems the Owls have an incredible amount of pulling power with Rohl at the helm.
Valery has a fair amount of experience in the Championship, but he didn’t play too often towards the end of his time at Southampton. The past two seasons in France’s second tier will have helped him re-gain his sharpness ahead of his switch back to England.
Only heading one way
Sheffield Wednesday only narrowly avoided relegation last season, but unlike many other teams who do so, people are now expecting the Owls to rapidly climb the rankings next time around.
Rohl rejuvenated the club and with a summer window behind him he is expected to take the club forward.
It remains to be seen just how far Sheffield Wednesday can go this season, but you absolutely cannot write them off in any situation under Rohl.
They are certainly one of the teams to keep an eye on as the 2024/25 season edges closer.
