Newcastle United poised to land ‘£80m’ windfall – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Newcastle United are “poised” to supercharge their kit revenue to match the likes of Man United.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Magpies will be on track to landing a £80million-per-year deal if results come on the pitch next season.
Adidas are the new kit manufacturer at Newcastle from the 2024-25 campaign after taking over from Castore and launched the new strip last week (7 June) to a good reception from fans.
It has been reported that Castore were paying just £5million per year for their agreement, while Adidas are set to pay £30m per annum.
However, English giants Man United rake in around £90million from the German sportswear giants – a clear sign Newcastle still have progress to make.
Newcastle ‘poised’ to match Man United kit revenue, says Wyness
Wyness claimed Newcastle are “poised” to go to that level with their on-pitch performance under Eddie Howe.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a small amount.
“You’ll have to get up to the £40m, £60m, £70m, £80m level before Newcastle start to see a major impact in terms of revenue coming in for transfer business.
“But I’ve got no doubt that the figures from kit and merchandise sales this year will give them a great bargaining position.
“Of course, it also comes down to on-pitch performance. If they can qualify for the Champions League or Europe, that will trigger bonuses and allow them to go further.
“It’s results on the football pitch, but Newcastle are poised to do that. Good luck to them.
“I hope they become one of the clubs at the top end, in the mix. It’d be great for football.”
