andy Reid says the Kansas City Chiefs have signed a player he knows how to use in ‘the best way
The wide receiver re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for one year.
Until the beginning of the week, Mecole Hardman was a free agent in the NFL.
His history with the franchise is one of comings and goings. In 2019, he was drafted by KC and remained in the squad until 2022.
Then, during the 2023 offseason, the pass-catcher agreed a deal with the New York Jets, but his time in the Big Apple was very fleeting: he caught one pass in five games and ended up losing his starting spot.
That’s when he asked to be traded and found himself back with the Chiefs.
At the end of last season, Hardman already knew that he would test the market, but he didn’t join any team…. until the beginning of June, when he re-signed with the reigning champions.
Possible reasons for KC choosing to stay with Mecole Hardman
It’s true that Kansas City strengthened its squad very well in free agency and the Draft. The wide receiver position, the most fragile and in need of attention, was filled with excellent names.
However, Hardman’s return could be justified for two reasons: Rashee Rice’s legal situation, which might result in him being suspended for more than half the regular season, and the new kickoff rule implemented by the league.
Dave Toub could give him another role to fulfil on the pitch, such as returning kickoffs.
Andy Reid believes Hardman has a lot to add to the team
After Friday’s OTAs, Andy Reid held a press conference and was asked about the decision to keep the Chiefs pass-catcher for another year.
Hardman was responsible for the blockbuster touchdown in overtime that led KC to win the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers last season.
“He brings good energy, and it’s good to have him back out there. I think we know how to use Mecole, and I think Mecole knows we know how to use Mecole in the best way.”
