Italian media claim Newcastle are eyeing €35m winger and €25m striker up for grabs

Ever since Saudi owners arrived at Newcastle United, the Italian media has regularly linked us with a move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

That theme has continued this summer, with Tutto Juve the latest outlet to report on our alleged interest in the 26-year-old, who looks set to for a move after entering the final 12 months of his contract in Turin.

They claim that Newcastle, Aston Villa, Napoli and Bayern Munich are all keen on the Italian international, who is believed to be available for a fee in the region of €35m (£29.5m).

He put his injury woes behind him over the 2023/24 season, scoring 10 times in 37 appearances for Juve, but it’s never been clear if Newcastle are actually interested or a convenient name being used (given our need for a winger) to drive up interest from elsewhere. A fit and firing Chiesa is a huge threat, but his injury history and the fact he often plays on the left makes you wonder.

Then there’s Tammy Abraham; the Roma striker who has been linked with a return to the Premier League and potential move to Tyneside as a Callum Wilson replacement should our current No.9 leave.

With Roma needing to raise funds to ease their financial situation, La Gazetta dello Sport report that the Serie A giants are prepared to sell the 26-year-old for €22-25m (£18.5-£21m) and believe a return to England is on the cards, with Aston Villa, West Ham and Spurs also keen.

For me, Abraham seems far more likely to be a genuine target than Chiesa, considering our need for a proven striker who could compete with Isak and his previous experience in the Premier League, but we shall see.
