Everton, Leeds United & Leicester City ‘eye’ free agent Championship striker who broke Premier League record
The Sheffield United attacker could be a bargain signing after being relegated.
Everton are reportedly interested in a move for the soon-to-be free agent Daniel Jebbinson.
The Sheffield United attacker has been just relegated to the Championship with Chris Wilder’s side but is set to become a free agent this summer. As part of their retained list announcement, the Blades confirmed he has been offered a new deal but he is yet to sign it as he considers his future.
HITC football’s Graeme Bailey claims Everton are interested in signing Jebbison as he is debating his future. It’s said that Brighton, Ipswich, Leeds and Leicester are also interested in the former England U20 striker. He only managed 20 minutes of action last season which came on the final day against Tottenham and managed just 19 games and two goals in their promotion campaign the year before.
He actually netted at Goodison Park for Sheffield United back in May 2021 and has a strong amount of potential that could be realised this summer. That goal meant that he became the youngest player to score on his first Premier League start at 17 years and 309 days. Comparisons can be drawn to Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was signed for £1.5m from Sheffield United who went onto become a leading figure for the club. Despite signing both Beto and Youssef Chermiti last summer, Everton are low on funds once again and signing Jebbinson on a free could be useful for squad depth and he may even compile a value over the years meaning he could later be sold on if needed.
Standing at six foot three, he boasts a very strong physical frame and is just needing minutes to realise his potential. Former Sheffield United coach Jack Lester claimed in 2023 that the forward has a bright future ahead of him and that he was an excellent young forward.
He said: “People forget that he’ll still be a teenager at the start of next season so he’s developing really well. He’s got some fantastic physical attributes and we will continue to work to develop him.
“But he’s got a really bright future, Dan. I think people forget how young he is, he was ahead of schedule if you like for where we saw him as we were looking at him as a 15, 16-year-old but he’s got there through his hard work and his talent and we’re really pleased with him and we’re optimistic of a really bright future for him.”
