Danny Rohl hopes of re-signing ‘superb’ James Beadle at Sheffield Wednesday now rated

Sheffield Wednesday have been told how likely they are to re-sign James Beadle this summer.

James Beadle joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Brighton in January, having spent the first half of the campaign in League One.

Despite never playing above the third tier, the goalkeeper lit up Hillsborough and picked up eight clean sheets in 19 matches in the Championship.

Beadle was hailed as ‘superb‘ for his spell with the Owls, but the fairytale was quickly brought to an end when he was forced to return to Brighton at the end of his loan.

Wednesday have made it very clear that they wish to bring the 19-year-old back to the club though, while his future at Brighton remains unclear.

The Seagulls currently have Bart Verbruggen, Jason Steele and Carl Rushworth among their ranks, though the latter two could potentially be on their way out.

While there was the potential for Beadle to push for a place in the squad on the south coast, it now appears he is a lot more likely to return to the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday are looking likely to sign James Beadle

Journalist Alex Miller wrote on X: “Understand Wednesday’s hopes of re-signing James Beadle remain very much alive as talks continue with Brighton over loan return. Beadle is DR’s preferred no 1.”

The Owls are still in talks with Brighton over a second loan deal, while a report from The Star claims that the Seagulls are also keen to see him leave the club temporarily as well.

Sal Bibbo could also play a big part in his arrival, with it believed that his positive relationship and experience at Brighton with Beadle could encourage the teenager to return.

Where does that leave Cameron Dawson?

It is no surprise that Beadle is Rohl’s first choice after such a successful campaign in the Championship.

His return could plunge Cameron Dawson’s future into doubt though, despite the 28-year-old being offered a new contract.

It still seems likely that Wednesday will bring in a new shot-stopper too, which begs the question as to where Dawson will stand in the pecking order.

Pierce Charles is also still up for selection after signing his own contract, but the arrival of two ‘keepers could see him sent out on loan.
