Danny Rohl told of nine signings Sheffield Wednesday ‘need to’ make in summer transfer window

Danny Rohl has been urged to sign nine players at Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for a major squad overhaul after saying goodbye to Tyreeq Bakinson, Ciaran Brennan, George Byers, Juan Delgdao, Lee Gregory, Reece James, Beadle, Momo Diaby, Ashley Fletcher, Jeff Hendrick, Kristian Pedersen, Ian Pvoeda and Ike Ugbo.

The Owls are also still waiting for five players to commit to new contracts and are approaching the summer with half of their squad missing.

With Danny Rohl aiming for a top half finish next season, Wednesday need to handle their transfer business smartly.

While they will be looking to add quantity to their team, quality certainly can’t go ignored.

Sheffield Wednesday’s nine-man shopping list

With the club set for a very busy summer, journalist Dom Howson has come up with a ‘long shopping list’ for the Yorkshire outfit.

Writing on X, he said: “The summer transfer business that I think #SWFC need to do: GK (if CD signs a new contract, loan out PC), LB, Two CBs (keep hold of DI and DB), Two CMs (keep hold of WV), Re-sign Poveda, Re-sign Ugbo, Striker (keep hold of JW).

Who could Sheffield Wednesday now sign?

James Beadle is currently on Wednesday’s radar after loaning him in in January, though his future will depend on where he stands at Brighton.

The Owls don’t seem to have focused on a new left-back yet, though signing free agent Ellis Taylor could be a good shout after his stellar campaign for Sunderland U21s.

The club has been linked with Charlie Goode and Ovie Ejaria, while they remain on the hunt to re-sign both Poveda and Ugbo this summer.

A striker is definitely a main priority and it does look unlikely that they will bring Ugbo back due to his price tag and huge interest in his signature.

Mika Biereth is back in their consideration though, having scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 37 games last season.
