The Portuguese midfielder of course spent last season on loan at Celtic from Benfica, and while not having the most spectacular of campaigns he impressed all the same, making notable contributions against theRangers on both the
Scottish Premiership and also the Scottish Cup.
Paulo might not have featured as much as he wanted, but it’s clear as day that he has the ability to succeed at Celtic.
Paulo has all the attributes to be a success in the hoops. He’s got power, he can pick a pass, and he can find the net. He has that quality presence in the middle of the park. With some players you can just tell that they have that something special about them, and Paulo is one of those players.
Paulo is also the skipper of the Portuguese under 21 side, so it’s quite clear that he’s a talented player who’s highly rated in the Portuguese national set up.
If the club can sign him for the £5 million fee mentioned, then it would be money well spent in my opinion. It might be viewed as a risk by some, but it would prove to be a bargain in the long run.
£5 million for one of the best young talents in Portugal? We would be daft if we passed up on that opportunity. Paulo will only get better. Let’s hope it’s with Celtic.
If Brendan Rodgers’ assessment is similar to the above then Michael Nicholson should be speaking to his counterparts at Benfica to get the deal done without any fuss, drama or delay.
