Paulo Bernardo spent the season on loan at Celtic from Benfica. When everybody was fit and available, he was not a regular starter for the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers’ side dealt with injury problems throughout the course of the campaign though, which meant that the Portuguese youth international got a decent bit of playing time,

There is no doubt that Bernardo has a lot of areas to improve upon. He needs to be a lot more effective if he wants to play regularly for a team like Celtic.

But at the same time, he has come up good in big moments as well. Whether that be his goal against the Rangers in the 2-1 win at Parkhead or his effort in the Scottish Cup final which ultimately led to Adam Idah’s goal.

As a result, it would be a good idea to sign Bernardo on a permanent basis if available for the right transfer fee. The good news for Celtic is that it seems that the player wants to stay at Parkhead.

Paulo Bernardo makes decision about staying at Celtic

As reported by Record, Bernardo wants to stay at Celtic. The midfielder welcomes continuity at the Scottish club, where he feels fully integrated.

It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to reach an agreement with Benfica to sign Bernardo on a permanent basis this summer. There is believed to be a buyout clause set around £6 million in the midfielder’s deal but rumours have suggested that the Hoops are not willing to match that and would want the figure to be brought down.

Bernardo is a decent player without a doubt but £6 million is a major transfer fee for Celtic, and would immediately make him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history. So far, he has not shown that level of football and hopefully, there is some room for negotiation.
