West Ham United in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Wes Foderingham – Dharmesh Sheth

West Ham are in “advanced talks” to complete the signing of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The reporter provided the update on Wednesday (10:33 pm, 29 May) via Sky Sports News’ online transfer centre.

Foderingham is set to become a free agent as his deal expires at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United, where he made 30 Premeir League appearances last season and conceded 79 goals.

The 33-year-old is expected to arrive at the London Stadium to provide competition for Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski.

Wes Foderingham represents a smart bit of business for West Ham United

It looks as if the Hammers will sign their man.

Areola had a fantastic season last year, meaning Foderingham is unlikely to arrive as a starter.

But, despite relegation with the Blades, the Englishman had a decent season in his own right.

This is a low-risk, high-reward transfer for West Ham.

Fabianski recently celebrated his 39th birthday and likely won’t be around for much longer.

The club therefore need a reliable number two, a role which Foderingham could certainly fill.

By bringing the shot-stopper in for free, they are not taking much of a gamble on him.

There is only room for upside to this transfer, which looks as if it could become Julen Lopetegui’s first bit of business in East London.

While it isn’t a signing which will blow supporters at the London Stadium away, it is a clever bit of squad business.

Fans will just hope this transfer is followed by a few more high-profile ones.

In other West Ham United news, another transfer at the club is on the verge of collapse.
