The Browns are about to resign one of the best players in Cleveland Browns history, as another four-time Pro Bowler who is a free agent has concluded a massive agreement with the Dawg Pound.
Running back Nick Chubb was one of the best players in Cleveland Browns history during his first five years, but the four-time Pro Bowler has suffered season-ending injuries in each of the last two seasons. Chubb agreed to a reworked contract in 2024 with significantly less guaranteed money in order to stay in Cleveland for the last year of his prior contract.
He entered free agency earlier this month and remains available to any NFL team. However, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com claimed on Sunday, March 16, that the team is “open” to re-signing Chubb. “Chubb didn’t find a new home in the first wave of free agency, and the Browns will be open to re-signing him in the second wave if they determine they’ll have a role for him,” according to Cabot.
“They’ll also likely draft a running back in this rich class to pair with Jerome Ford, or acquire one in a trade or free agency.” Nick Chubb, a former Cleveland Browns running back.
Chubb will be 30 years old in late December, near the end of the upcoming season. Throughout NFL history, the 30th birthday has often shown to be an appropriate biological boundary between one’s prime and the tail end of one’s career as a running back.
But athletes such as Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens have shown that this is not always the case. Following a fractured foot in 2024 and a horrific knee injury in 2023 that took numerous surgeries to fix and sidelined Chubb for more than 13 months, he is unlikely to get a big contract elsewhere—even by running back standards.
As a result, Chubb may benefit from returning to the Browns locker room and the city of Cleveland as he strives to reestablish his worth and demonstrate his ability to stay healthy for an entire season.
On a new one-year contract, Spotrac forecasts Chubb’s market value to be $3.3 million.
