Everton and Nottingham Forest efforts to hijack €22m signing – PL duo ‘wanting to lure’ player to England
Everton and Nottingham Forest have made efforts to hijack Ritsu Doan’s move from SC Freiburg to Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, according to Bild.
The winger joined Eintracht Frankfurt for €22m including bonuses and Freiburg have also secured a 100% sell-on clause.
Last season, the Japan international scored 10 goals and registered nine assists from 36 games. His performances would have caught Everton and Nottingham Forest’s attention.
According to the report, both the Toffees and Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were vying for the 26-year-old, ‘wanting to lure’ him to the Premier League and in the process, ‘derail’ his move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
In addition to Everton and Nottingham Forest, an unnamed Italian club showed interest. Doan also received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, but he didn’t entertain any of them in order to fulfil his dream of joining the German club.
Bild reports Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has been pursuing the attacking for around six months. They received a positive signal from the player in May, right after the club qualified for the Champions League.
It’s claimed the prospect of moving to Eintracht Frankfurt and also playing in Europe’s elite competition was ‘simply too lucrative’ for Doan.
“I decided on Frankfurt months ago and told my agents that too,” Bild quote the player as saying.
Although Everton and Nottingham Forest wanted to hijack Eintracht Frankfurt’s signing, the report indicates the Premier League duo never had a chance of being successful.
