Just in: West Ham United have officially announced the signing of talented player Jonathan David for €40 million.

In a blockbuster mid-season transfer move that has sent ripples through the Premier League, West Ham United have secured the services of Canadian international forward Jonathan David from Juventus in a deal worth €40 million, with the player penning a four-year contract that will keep him at the London Stadium until the summer of 2030. The club confirmed the news in a statement released earlier today, hailing the 26-year-old as a “generational talent” who will add significant firepower to their attacking line-up as they battle for survival and progress in the FA Cup.

David, born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Ottawa, Canada, began his professional career at Belgian side Gent, where he burst onto the scene with 30 goals in 60 league appearances and won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot in the 2019-20 season. His performances earned him a move to Lille in 2020 for €30 million, making him the most expensive Canadian transfer in history at the time. During his five-year spell at the French club, he established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, scoring 87 goals in 178 league games and helping Lille win the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21 and the Trophée des Champions in 2021. He left Lille as the club’s third all-time top goalscorer, with 109 goals in 232 appearances across all competitions.

After joining Juventus on a free transfer in July 2025, David faced a challenging start to life in Serie A, scoring seven goals in 34 games for the Turin giants. However, West Ham’s manager Nuno Espírito Santo believes the striker’s struggles were down to adapting to a new league and system, and is confident he can rediscover his best form in the Premier League. “Jonathan is a player we have been tracking for a long time,” said Nuno. “He has a proven track record of scoring goals at the highest level, and his movement, pace and finishing ability will be a huge asset to our team. We are delighted to have him here, and we look forward to seeing him in a West Ham shirt.”

The transfer marks a significant investment for West Ham, who have been in need of a reliable goalscorer to boost their chances of avoiding relegation. The club currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, three points behind 16th-placed Nottingham Forest, and have scored just 25 goals in 25 league games this season. David’s arrival is expected to provide a much-needed boost to their attacking options, alongside the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paquetá.

For David, the move to West Ham represents a fresh start and an opportunity to prove himself in one of the world’s most competitive leagues. “I am very excited to join West Ham United,” said the Canadian international. “This is a big club with a passionate fanbase, and I am looking forward to contributing to their success. I know the Premier League is a tough league, but I am ready for the challenge, and I can’t wait to get started.”

The player is expected to make his West Ham debut in the club’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Saturday evening, and will wear the number 9 shirt for the Hammers.
