BRILLIANT SIGNING FOR TOTTENHAM’: PERRY GROVES BACKS ENGLISHMAN TO JOIN SPURS

Perry Groves says Leicester City midfielder James Maddison would be a ‘brilliant signing’ for Tottenham ahead of his summer exit from the relegated side.

The former Arsenal player added that James Maddison would suit Ange Postecoglou’s team because of the ‘creativity’ he would bring to the table, as he told talkSPORT

Tottenham for a number of years now have been crying out for that spark in the middle of the park and now they could be getting their hands on a player of Maddison’s ilk.

What’s even better for Spurs is that Leicester have now seemingly lowered their asking price for the England international, which was previously set at £60 million

That’s music to the ears of Daniel Levy because there was just no way he would put £60 million down on a player he knows will leave and that for a relegated side.

Nonetheless, with Spurs, so far, making the loudest noises that they want to sign the 26-year-old, Groves backed the move to happen

“What did he get, ten Premier League goals and nine assists in a really, really poor team,” said Groves. “He also had a bit of an injury, didn’t he, going into the World Cup.

“I think he is another one that has blossomed and wants to take on responsibility. Spurs are a step-up from Leicester CityLeicester City, where the expectations are more and you have to have a big character to handle those expectations, which I think he has got.

“And with Ange Postecoglou, he wouldn’t be going for James Maddison if he didn’t think (he couldn’t do the off-the-ball work).

“I know he wants creativity and adventurousness. But he will work hard. He will have to. When you are out of possession, the first one is, can you set off the press first, which would be the centre-forward or James Maddison. If you don’t, then you get yourself back and then you go on the press. I think he will be a brilliant signing for Spurs.

The fans have been crying for it and now they might just get their wish, it’s just a case of Spurs putting their money where their mouth is.

If Maddison does sign, then it would be an outstanding start to the summer transfer window for Postecoglou because he gets a player that will suit his system down to a tee.

Rather than Harry Kane having to constantly drop deep, the north London club, for the first time in a long time, will have a player that brings their game to life in the final third
