Leeds United are set to snuff down Everton transfer rumors as a substantial wage raise awaits the club’s young star.

Leeds winger Wilfried Gnonto is an Everton target

Leeds United are apparently planning to offer Wilfried Gnonto a new contract to acknowledge both his intention to retire in the aftermath of Everton’s attention and to reward him for his rapid improvement while at Elland Road.

The Italy international was the subject of considerable transfer speculation this summer, with Everton making three proposals, the last of which exceeded £25 million, to persuade Leeds into selling the player. The 13-times capped Italy player signed in a bargain £5.2m deal from FC Zurich last summer and was one of their few bright sparks during a gloomy season that concluded in relegation.

Unlike a lot of his teammates, who all had relegation release clauses in their contracts, Leeds did have some say over the Gnonto situation, stating to both the player and Everton that Gnonto would not be permitted to depart.

And, while the player first refused to play for Leeds until he got his way, he eventually saw the folly of his ways, apologized to new manager Daniel Farke, and was re-introduced into the starting lineup.

Gnonto has one goal to his name since his comeback to the team and has basically returned to his old self as he focuses on the challenge of helping Leeds earn promotion at the first time of asking.

Nonetheless, rumors of Everton’s interest continue to circulate. On Sunday, there was renewed speculation that Everton may make a fresh approach for Gnonto ahead of the January transfer window, which officially opens in 105 days.

Leeds, on the other hand, will not back down.

Sean Dyche has stated that Everton would not enter the free agent market.

The Toffees signed five players during the summer transfer window, including Ashley Young on a free transfer from Aston Villa. Everton, on the other hand, had a low-key transfer deadline day in terms of incomings, despite the departures of Alex Iwobi, Neel Maupay, and Tom Cannon. Demarai Gray, meanwhile, left to join El-Ettifaq before the Suadi Pro League window closed.

After leaving Nottingham Forest, Everton have been connected with Portuguese player Xeka as well as former Manchester United offensive midfielder Jesse Lingard. Lingard has been working out with West Ham United. While Dyche says Everton would keep an eye on who is available, any possible moves are doubtful.

“It is rare at this stage that you get one who has been missed for odd reasons,” he stated at his pre-match press conference before of Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Arsenal. Typically, by this point, the market has established scenarios for players to be in.

“But we will certainly keep an eye on the list of players and see if there is anyone who can sort us, which we have already done, of course, but we will keep doing that.”
