Blackburn Rovers injury concerns are updated by Tomasson.
Jon Dahl Tomasson feels optimistic. Lewis Travis and Sam Gallagher suffered minor injuries after being sent off against Middlesbrough.
On Saturday, the Blackburn Rovers duo were unable to play the whole 90 minutes. Around the hour mark, Gallagher went down and was replaced by new striker Semir Telalovic.
Travis played until the 75th minute before injuring himself in a vicious slide tackle. The Rovers captain was replaced by Joe Rankin-Costello, but he was able to leave the field.
While Tomasson is still waiting for a thorough medical assessment on both players, he believes they will be fine. Sunderland visit Ewood Park on Wednesday.
“It is too early to say,” Tomasson stated. “When you see Sam Gallagher fall, we know his history.”
“I believe he’s fine, but it’s early days.” Trav is a warrior, so I’m curious if he won’t be ready for the next game after that tackle. We all know he wants to be prepared.”
Gallagher missed the first few weeks of the season due to injury and will be aiming to avoid more setbacks. So far, Travis has started every Championship game.
Summer commitment Tomasson left Sondre Tronstad out of the team for the game against Middlesbrough. On the bench, the Rovers head coach went with Jake Garrett and Rankin-Costello.
“It was a selection choice,” Tomasson explained to The Lancashire Telegraph. “I went with Garrett and Joe (Rankin-Costello) on the bench because they can play in the midfield.” That was my decision.”
Tronstad made his Championship debut against West Brom on the first day of the season, but has not appeared since. Instead, he’s been confined to Carabao Cup substitute appearances and minutes.
Travis is expected to return to the squad if he is unable to face Sunderland. Rankin-Costello and Jake Garrett are also battling for his starting spot.
