Marinakis, aspirations, and Elanga – Nottingham Forest’s transfer window questions answered
Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds reflect on their Premier League debut.
Nottingham Forest can look back on a successful start to the season as they enjoy a holiday over the international break.
Steve Cooper’s team entered the two-week break with their first away win since January, thanks to Anthony Elanga’s goal against Chelsea. The home game against Burnley on September 18 cannot come soon enough for fans.
The vacation will also give the Reds’ new recruits time to adjust to their new surroundings. Forest finished the window with plenty of depth after adding seven new players on transfer deadline day, bringing their total number of summer acquisitions to 13.
When Reds reporter Sarah Clapson hosted a live Q&A on our Forest Facebook page, there was no shortage of topics to discuss. This is how it turned out.

According to reports, Forest seriously contemplated signing a ‘world class’ superstar dubbed’spectacular’ by Messi.
During the summer transfer window, Nottingham Forest explored signing world-class central defender Sergio Ramos. The centre-back recently joined Sevilla, but he was a free agent throughout the summer.
The Athletic said that Forest were planning a huge transfer for the outstanding defender. However, it was never built, only demonstrating that the Reds left no stone unturned in their search for fresh talent.
Forest finished the transfer window with 13 new additions. Having seen 28 players depart in either permanent moves or on loan, this was about par for the course as the Reds targeted quality over quantity.
Signing Ramos would have seen Forest fans dancing on the streets of West Bridgford. The 37-year-old has won it all in club football; with four Champions League titles and one World Cup crown sitting on his mantlepiece at home.
Ramos appeared in 671 games for Real Madrid, scoring 101 goals and receiving 26 yellow cards. He then transferred to PSG, where he played for two seasons and made 58 appearances.
He has now relocated to Sevilla, where it all began for Ramos. His first taste of men’s football came with the La Liga club, but it didn’t stop Forest from trying to sign him during the summer.
This summer, Forest attempted to sign Ramos.
Luis Enrique used to be the manager of Spain. When he did, he complimented Ramos, describing the center defender as ‘special’ and ‘on a different level’ after he earned one of his 180 caps for his country.
Furthermore, Zinedine Zidane described him as “one of the greatest players in history,” and Lionel Messi described him as “world-class” and “spectacular,” with the player having a large reputation.
Forest did manage to get several center defenders across the line. They concluded a deal for Murillo, regarded as a Brazilian wonderkid, and Andrew Omobamidele, an EFL emerging star.
Ramos would have been a huge coup for Forest. However, it looks that nothing was ever close, and the Reds’ effort was merely a shaky one.
