Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Unai Emery’s side continue look to strengthen in the summer transfer window
Aston Villa are one of four clubs at the front of the queue to sign Juventus ace Federico Chiesa this summer, according to reports in Italy.
Villa are alongside Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United in the race to sign the Italy international this summer, according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via football Italia ). The report adds that Juventus will be open to selling the player this summer, but would demand a fee of €60 million (£51.6m).
The four clubs mentioned are all said to be in the ‘front row’ for the transfer. German giants Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest
Brad Friedel has urged Aston Villa to sign Tottenham forward Lucas Moura when he leaves Spurs at the end of June.
The Brazilian will be available as a free agent when he departs the North London side at the end of this month. He famously scored a hattrick against Ajax in 2019 to send Spurs into the Champions League final where they lost to Liverpool.
Friedel spent three years at Villa Park before leaving to join Tottenham in 2011. The American never crossed paths with Moura at Spurs after leaving the Lilywhites in 2015 before Moura’s arrival in 2018.
Aston Villa’s chase for Pau Torres could be impacted by other transfers going on around Europe with a transfer domino possibly in play.
Villa have been heavily linked with a move for Villarreal centre-back Torres in recent days with reports in Spain claiming that Villa are willing to pay the player’s €65m (£55.8m) release clause. It has, however, also been suggested that a deal could possibly be done for less with the player having just one year remaining on his contract.
The 26-year-old has previously played under Unai Emery during the manager’s time at Villarreal. He turned down a move to Tottenham last summer in order to play Champions League football with his boyhood club.
Aston Villa unveiled their new 2023/24 home strip and goalkeeper kit last week, and fans are excited for the release of the club’s away shirts.
The club’s home strip was unveiled last Thursday, as pictures of John McGinn, Rachel Corsie, Ollie Watkins, Maz Pacheco, Matty Cash, Olivia McLoughlin, Boubacar Kamara and Kenza Dali all wearing the new strip were released.
Next season’s kits are once again manufactured by Castore, and the home shirt is inspired by the passion of supporters in the stands at Villa Park, as the design depicts a subtle print of soundwaves taken from fans singing the famous ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’ chant on a matchday.
